PITTWATER LIFE ARTICLE WRITTEN PREMATURELY !
NO CONSULTATION WITH THE STAKEHOLDERS BEFORE PUBLISHING THE STORY !
IT'S NOT A DONE DEAL - As is inferred in the June 2016 Pittwater Life article.
Pittwater Life June 2016 on page 18 ran a story saying
"New Bus Stops and Carparks Get
Go-Ahead"
Pittwater Life June 2016 on page 18 ran a story saying
"New Bus Stops and Carparks Get
Go-Ahead"
New bus stops and carparks get the go-ahead Construction of two new carparks and B-Line bus stops have been given the green light. The Warriewood carpark will be multi-deck and replace the existing carpark on the eastern side of Pittwater Rd. A car park at Mona Vale will be on the site housing the Scouts, Guides and tennis club in Kitchener Park. Transport NSW will foot the bill and pay for construction of new facilities for these groups. | In fact nothing could be further from the truth ! |
Had Pittwater Life checked with the relevant stakeholders Guides, Scouts and Tennis, and asked for a comment the reporter would have realised the infomation they published was inaccurate. The story ran at the end of May 2016. Take a look at the evidence below after that date where clearly all stakeholders are not happy at all, it's not a done deal, no agreements have been drafted let alone signed, no Architectural drawings have been done, only 1 informal meeting had been held, so from that the deal is supposedly done is it?
Mona Vale Guides Have Stated The Following
6 June 2016
* We are not up to agreeing to anything yet
* Still awaiting a formal written proposal from Transport for NSW
* Lots of this is based on here say
* We are awaiting a meeting between Transport for NSW, Guides, Scouts and Tennis Club
* We are nowhere near this yet
* There's an item in the June 2016 Pittwater Life magazine which I got yesterday (page 18) under the headline "New bus stops and carparks get go-ahead" which says "Construction of two new carparks and B-Line bus stops have been given the green light........ A car park at Mona Vale will be on the site housing the Scouts, Guides and tennis club in Kitchener Park. Transport NSW will foot the bill and pay for construction of new facilities for these groups.
* It makes it sound like it's been approved already.
* I assure you nothing has been sighed.
* The key aspects we want answers on (based on we haven't committed to anyhting other than simply considering their proposal) is tenure, size of the proposed hall, issues around access and safety, parking etc.
20 June 2016
* From a management point of view, we are yet to receive anything formal from Transport NSW in a written format or architectural drawings etc.
* As such, there have been no decisions made.
* Girl Guides NSW & ACT's current status on this issue is "awaiting formal proposals".
* Obviously, options that are being spoken about (not formally discussed I must stress!) are not in our local Girl Guide groups' interest, nor do I believe, in the interests of your businesses and community/hobby groups.
* If we were ever to be in a position where we were to "move" (not our preference),
* If you feel you would like to make a submission to our local member, council or other group, please feel free to do so on behalf of your organisation
* Particularly the impact on 4 hour parking spaces for the Pittwater Motor Enthusiasts, and on 'drop and kiss' zones for the Dance group
22 June 2016
* Girl Guides NSW & ACT have many unanswered questions in the consultation process
Mona Vale Scouts Have Stated The Following
30 May 2016
* If all three club houses are at ground level (which we all seem to want ) then the green play area goes from 1200 sq mtrs to 350 sq m
* As far as the Scouts are concerned this is not acceptable
* There are 3-4 other configurations of the halls but the result is much the same for the area available to us to do outdoor activities. Essentially the guides and scouts would probably have to book the space at night
* There are currently 54 "four hour" car spaces available to shoppers, tennis, guides, scouts, dancers, football, cricket etc. With the proposed configuration there will be 15 spots so it will be an utter bun fight.
* Currently the 54 spots are well used during the day and especially in the afternoon when 20 dancers, 15 tennis players, 25 scouts and 15 guides come and go into the halls every 30-45 minutes from 3pm to 8pm. (6-7 days a week) With this many movements of children and adults parking for 150 cars is a recipe for an accident every hour of the day.
* There are currently 36 "all day" parking spots and 54 four hour spots. Total 90. Of these 90 you want to convert them to 65 (plus new ones) "all day" and 15 to four hour and run double decker buses every 10-15 minutes. So the additional all day parking spaces will be full from the passengers on just one bus and the cost to put in the parking, move halls etc would be over $3 million dollars.
* Basically the bus stop and parking need to be moved, not the other way around
* Within the Crown land surrounding us are the following clubs
Golf Club 342,000 square metres
Kitchener Park 35,200
Bowling Club 12,000
Tennis club 2,700
Guides 750
Scouts 750
From these figures there are many other options to get appropriate parking.
* To walk from the Kitchener Park football clubhouse to the current bus stop takes 60 seconds so Kitchener park parking is more appropriate
14 June 2016
* There are other options for the B-Line parking we discussed & all like, especially the Golf ave option.
* Scouts went for a walk up Golf Ave to the Golf Club and back on the inside. There is a fence and the tree line is right up against the fence. Minimal trees would need to be removed but new ones can be replanted.
* I know it would take a great effort to get it off the Club but why should we have to suffer because other solutions are not taken into account.
* The carrot of new halls for the Guides and Scouts is just not in our interest.
* In the meantime Mona Vale Scouts will be making contact wherever & with whoever we can to retain the halls where they are.
16 June 2016
* Transport for NSW were not interested in exploring other local sites nor talking to the scouts before making the decision.
19 June 2016
* Mona Vale Scouts intends to do a press release that they want to send to convey to ratepayers that they are not happy with the deal offered
21 June 2016
* Mona Vale Scouts sends an email to Transport for NSW asking when do they intend to reply in writing as they have sent many concerns that need an answer
* Mona Vale Scouts prepare flyers to send to Government Departments and the media in the next 24 - 48 hours
* Banners are being prepared to hang on the halls and courts letting the Mona Vale community know what is happening and the loss of parking
Mona Vale Tennis Have Stated the Following
* They will not support the proposal in particular the Tennis Clubhouse being on the second storey of the proposed new building.
