BUT AT WHAT COST - See Link Below

Friends of Mona Vale were very concerned where at the Pittwater Council Connecting Communities Reference Group meeting held on 5 August 2015 the Committee discussed the proposed Northern Beaches Bus Rapid Transport proposal. Mr. John Larcombe - Transport for NSW addressed the meeting providing an update with a Power Point presentation on the NSW Governments proposed changes.
Friends of Mona Vale were concerned that from that presentation it was revealed the plan to demolish the Mona Vale Tennis Centre and four tennis courts in Kitchener Park and replace with bitumen and parking for an additional 150 cars for the B-Line BRT commuter park and ride facility.
The map below is from the Transport for NSW BRT Power Point presentation “Commuter Car Parking”.

The black mostly square outline in the center of the map is where the Tennis Center and four courts are located. This was to be demolished and replaced with a commuter car park for 150 cars.

The Mona Vale Tennis Center has been part of the culture of Mona Vale for decades and provides a much needed sports facility not only for the community in general but also paid sports for the local schools.
It should also be noted that the Tennis Courts and Club House are in Kitchener Park and are located on Crown Land. Pittwater Council has for years advertised and promoted commuter parking in Kitchener Park, which is not permitted as it is not a use consistent with sports and recreation on the Crown Reserve.
Then in 2013 Pittwater Council desecrated Beeby Reserve on the corner of Barrenjoey Road and Golf Avenue with yet another car park that is now mostly full of park and ride commuter parking. Again this is not permitted and the use is not that of the declared purpose for parking associated with sports and recreation.
Well the Community objected the proposed demolition and won. BUT Transport for NSW has come back saying we have saved the Tennis Courts but now want to demolish everything else around them.

2012 Shows Beeby Park As It Was
2013 Shows Beeby Park After Pittwater Council Built the 74 space Commuter Car Park for Park and Ride
THE COMMUNITY SAID -
"LEAVE OUR GREEN SPACE AND PARKS ALONE ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !"
Now we are set to loose a sports and recreation facility, on Crown Land, which is a consistent use with the dedicated purpose of the Crown for sports and recreation, the Mona Vale Tennis Club and 4 Tennis Courts to be replaced with, you guessed it, more park and ride commuter parking for another 150 cars which is not permitted as this use is not for sports and recreation purposes.
The current proposal is the 150 space car park will be "At Grade" (ground level). However the shape as shown by the yellow outline is perfect to have 1, 2 3, 4, 5 or more storey's added for a multi deck car park in the future. The Guides and Scout Halls are boxed in on the northern side now by the 74 space car park built by Pittwater Council in 2013 which also took their activities space away from them and now they are expected to be further boxed in by the planned 150 space car park on the southern side. When developed as multi storey the car park will also completely over shadow the halls as well.
It has been suggested to Council that if a parking lot is required for the future Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system it should be built above Mona Vale Bus Depot. Commuters could park their cars and the journey would start at the bus depot, how convenient would that be, but it would seem no one is listening.
